International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was established by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution 42/112 on December 7, 1987. The date of June 26 was chosen to commemorate the signing of the first international treaty aimed at controlling drug abuse, the International Opium Convention, which was signed in The Hague on June 26, 1925.

The day is observed annually to raise awareness about the negative effects of drug abuse and illicit trafficking on society and to promote global action to address these issues.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is an annual event aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, the importance of preventing drug addiction, and the challenges posed by illicit drug trafficking.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) plays a key role in organizing activities for the day, which often include educational campaigns, workshops, seminars, and other events designed to inform the public about the harmful consequences of drug use and the need for international cooperation to combat drug trafficking.

Each year, UNODC selects a theme to guide the activities and focus of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Themes in the past have included “Health for Justice. Justice for Health,” “Listen First,” and “Better Knowledge for Better Care.”
Various events and activities are organized to commemorate the day, such as:
1. Educational campaigns: Governments, NGOs, and schools may organize educational campaigns to inform the public about the dangers of drug abuse and addiction, as well as the methods of prevention and treatment.
2. Workshops and seminars: Experts, activists, and professionals may participate in workshops and seminars discussing the current state of drug abuse, addiction, and trafficking, as well as strategies to combat these issues.
3. Media engagement: News outlets, journalists, and social media influencers may highlight the issue of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, sharing stories of affected individuals and communities, and promoting prevention and treatment efforts.
4. Community events: Local organizations and community groups may host events to encourage dialogue and awareness about drug-related issues and to promote healthy alternatives to drug use.
5. Public demonstrations: Advocates and activists may organize marches, rallies, or other public demonstrations to raise awareness about the issue and call for government action to address drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing drug-related issues, promoting healthy lifestyles, and supporting international efforts to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Hidden Object Games

In recognition of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, we have created a unique Hidden Object Game to spread awareness about the negative impacts of substance abuse. In this game, you’ll navigate through various scenarios – a healthy school environment, a well-managed workplace, a supportive community, and more.

Your mission is to find symbols of positive influence and healthy choices. Look for items like the healthy meal, the sports equipment, the book, and so on. The game is not about hunting illegal substances but about promoting positive alternatives and the importance of making the right choices.

This game is a fun and interactive way to understand the significance of this day and the role we all can play in supporting drug-free communities. Let’s learn and play together!
