International Day of Charity

The International Day of Charity was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012. The day was chosen to honor the anniversary of the passing of Mother Teresa, who devoted her life to charitable work and helping those in need. Mother Teresa passed away on September 5, 1997, and was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 2016. The International Day of Charity was first celebrated on September 5, 2013, and was later moved to September 3.

The purpose of the International Day of Charity is to raise awareness and promote the importance of charitable activities, both at the individual and collective levels, as a means of addressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, and humanitarian crises.
On International Day of Charity, various events and activities take place around the world to promote the spirit of giving and to support charitable causes.

Some of these activities include:
1. Fundraising events: Charitable organizations and nonprofits may organize events such as walkathons, auctions, or concerts to raise funds for their causes.
2. Volunteer activities: Communities, businesses, and individuals are encouraged to participate in volunteer work to support local charitable organizations and to help those in need.
3. Public awareness campaigns: Governments, NGOs, and media outlets may launch campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of charitable giving and to highlight the work of various charitable organizations.
4. Educational programs: Schools and educational institutions may organize programs or workshops to teach students about the importance of charity, as well as the various ways in which they can contribute to charitable causes.
5. Social media campaigns: Individuals and organizations can use social media platforms to share information about charitable causes, to promote fundraising initiatives, and to encourage others to participate in charitable activities.

International Day of Charity serves as a reminder of the importance of charitable work in addressing global challenges and promoting the well-being of people around the world. The day encourages individuals, organizations, and governments to engage in charitable activities and to support efforts aimed at alleviating poverty, reducing inequality, and responding to humanitarian crises.
