International Day of Happiness

The International Day of Happiness was established by the United Nations General Assembly on June 28, 2012, following a proposal by the Kingdom of Bhutan. Bhutan is a small country in the Himalayas that measures its progress not only by economic growth but also through a holistic approach called Gross National Happiness, which takes into account the spiritual, physical, and mental well-being of its citizens.

The idea behind the International Day of Happiness is to recognize the importance of happiness and well-being as universal human goals and to promote a more inclusive, equitable, and balanced approach to economic growth that can contribute to the happiness and well-being of all people.

Celebrated annually on March 20, the International Day of Happiness is a global event that encourages people to focus on the significance of happiness and well-being in their lives. The day aims to raise awareness about the importance of happiness for individuals and communities and to inspire action towards creating a happier and more compassionate world.

Various events and activities take place worldwide to celebrate the International Day of Happiness, including:
1. Acts of kindness: People are encouraged to perform acts of kindness, both big and small, to spread happiness in their communities.
2. Happiness initiatives: Governments, organizations, and institutions may launch initiatives or programs that promote happiness, mental health, and well-being.
3. Social media campaigns: Individuals and organizations share messages, images, and videos related to happiness, positivity, and well-being on social media platforms using the hashtag #InternationalDayOfHappiness.
4. Workshops and seminars: Educational events may be organized to discuss the science of happiness, well-being practices, and the importance of mental health.
5. Community events: Local gatherings, such as concerts, picnics, and art exhibitions, may be organized to celebrate happiness and bring people together in a joyful atmosphere.

The International Day of Happiness is an opportunity for people all over the world to reflect on the importance of happiness in their lives, foster positive relationships, and contribute to creating a happier, healthier, and more compassionate society.
