International Day of Yoga

International Day of Yoga was first observed on June 21, 2015, after being officially established by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2014.

The idea for an International Day of Yoga was proposed by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014. He suggested June 21 as the date for the observance, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and holds special significance in many cultures.

International Day of Yoga is an annual event aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of practicing yoga for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Yoga is an ancient physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. It is a holistic approach to health and well-being, encompassing physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and ethical principles.


Various events and activities are organized worldwide to commemorate International Day of Yoga, including:
1. Mass yoga sessions: Governments, yoga institutions, and community organizations often organize free, mass yoga sessions in public places such as parks, community centers, and schools. These events aim to bring people together to practice yoga and experience its benefits firsthand.
