Juneteenth – Juneteenth is an African American celebration that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all slaves were free.

1865: Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced that all slaves in Texas were free, an event now celebrated as Juneteenth.
