Veterans Day: Also known as Armistice Day, this day honors military veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Remembrance Day: A memorial day observed in Commonwealth member countries to commemorate the sacrifices of members of their armed forces and of civilians in times of war.

National Independence Day: Angola celebrates its National Independence Day on November 11th. It marks the country’s independence from Portugal in 1975.

Pepero Day: Celebrated in South Korea, Pepero Day is a holiday where people exchange Pepero cookies with their friends and loved ones as a symbol of friendship and love.

Polish Independence Day: This day commemorates Poland’s independence from the German, Austro-Hungarian and Russian Empires in 1918.

World Origami Day: A day dedicated to the art of paper folding, World Origami Day is celebrated annually on November 11th to promote the benefits of origami, including creativity and relaxation.

Singles Day: Also known as Double 11 Day, Singles Day is a holiday in China that celebrates being single. It has become the largest shopping day in the world, with billions of dollars spent online.


308 AD: The Roman Emperor, Galerius, issues an edict granting Christians the freedom to practice their religion.

1831: Nat Turner, an American slave, is tried, convicted, and sentenced to death for leading a slave rebellion that resulted in the deaths of 55 white people.

1889: The State of Washington is admitted as the 42nd state of the United States.

1918: World War I ends with the signing of the Armistice of Compiegne, which came into effect at 11:00 am.

1921: The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is dedicated at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, United States.

1965: Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) unilaterally declares its independence from the United Kingdom, becoming the first such colony to do so since the United States in 1776.

1975: Australian constitutional crisis: Australian Governor-General Sir John Kerr dismisses the Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam, and commissions Malcolm Fraser as caretaker Prime Minister.

2004: Yasser Arafat, the Palestinian leader, dies at the age of 75 in a military hospital near Paris, France.
