World Heart Day

World Heart Day was established by the World Heart Federation (WHF) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations (UN). The day was first celebrated on September 24, 2000, and later moved to September 29.

The goal of World Heart Day is to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), including heart disease and stroke, and promote heart-healthy lifestyles to reduce the global burden of these conditions.

World Heart Day focuses on educating people about the importance of heart health and the steps they can take to reduce their risk of CVDs.

The day emphasizes the following aspects:
1. Awareness: Increasing public awareness about the prevalence and severity of CVDs, which are the leading cause of death globally, claiming over 17 million lives each year.
2. Prevention: Encouraging individuals to adopt heart-healthy habits, such as eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, avoiding tobacco, and limiting alcohol consumption, to prevent the development of CVDs.
3. Early detection: Promoting the importance of regular health check-ups and screenings to identify and manage risk factors for CVDs, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.
4. Access to care: Advocating for equitable access to quality healthcare services, including diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, for people living with CVDs.
5. Policy advocacy: Encouraging governments and policymakers to develop and implement policies that promote heart health, such as regulating tobacco and alcohol, promoting healthy food choices, and creating environments that encourage physical activity.

On World Heart Day, various events and activities take place globally, including health check-ups, seminars, workshops, public talks, and awareness campaigns. These initiatives aim to engage individuals, communities, healthcare professionals, and policymakers in the fight against CVDs and encourage them to take action for better heart health.
