World Laughter Day

World Laughter Day is observed annually on the first Sunday of May, not January 10th. It was created in 1998 by Dr. Madan Kataria, an Indian family physician and the founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement. Dr. Kataria established the first Laughter Yoga club in Mumbai, India, in 1995, and it has since grown into a global phenomenon with thousands of clubs in more than 100 countries.

World Laughter Day aims to promote laughter and its numerous physical, mental, and emotional health benefits, as well as to encourage a sense of unity and world peace through laughter.

World Laughter Day is dedicated to celebrating the positive impact of laughter on individuals and communities. Laughter is a universal language that transcends cultural, social, and linguistic barriers. It has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, boost the immune system, release endorphins (feel-good hormones), and even help relieve pain.

The main objectives of World Laughter Day are to:
1. Promote the numerous health benefits of laughter and encourage people to incorporate laughter into their daily lives.
2. Raise awareness about Laughter Yoga and other laughter-based practices that can help people connect with their innate sense of humor and cultivate a habit of laughing.
3. Foster a sense of unity and harmony among people of different backgrounds and cultures through the shared experience of laughter.
4. Encourage laughter as a means of promoting world peace and understanding by demonstrating that laughter can bring people together regardless of their differences.

On World Laughter Day, various events, workshops, and gatherings are organized worldwide to celebrate the healing power of laughter. Laughter Yoga clubs, schools, community organizations, and individuals may participate by hosting laughter sessions, public demonstrations, or even flash mobs, where people come together to laugh for no reason.

Through these activities, World Laughter Day aims to inspire people to discover the joy and numerous benefits of laughter and share it with others to create a happier, healthier, and more peaceful world.
