World Tapir Day – A day to raise awareness about tapirs, a unique and endangered species, and to promote their conservation.

World Design Day – World Design Day is celebrated annually on April 27th to highlight the importance of design and its role in the world of business, culture, and social development. It was established by the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) in 1991.

International Guide Dog Day – International Guide Dog Day is observed on the last Wednesday of April to raise awareness about the important role guide dogs play in the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired.

National Tell a Story Day (USA) – National Tell a Story Day is celebrated annually on April 27th in the United States to encourage people of all ages to tell stories, whether they are traditional tales, personal anecdotes, or imaginative fictions.

Freedom Day (South Africa) – Freedom Day is a national public holiday in South Africa celebrated annually on April 27th to commemorate the first democratic elections held in 1994 that ended the apartheid regime and established a new government based on the principles of freedom, democracy, and equality.

1865: The steamboat Sultana exploded on the Mississippi River, killing over 1,800 people, mostly Union soldiers returning home from the Civil War.
